How To Cook the Perfect Steak in the Oven
We love steak at our house! After years, I feel like I”ve finally perfected our favorite steak recipe and I’d love to share it with you. I like to make it in the oven, and the end result is the juiciest, most flavorful steak!
What kind of steak should I get?
We buy grass-fed beef. I like to use filet mignon or ribeye with good marbling. I like to get our steaks fresh and try to cook them the day I buy them.
What should I cook the steak in?
I use a small glass casserole dish and season the steak in this one dish.
How should I season the meat?
Here’s the key to the flavor: SEASONING. With this recipe, you don’t have to plan ahead. I always forget to marinate anything ahead of time so this works great for me!
Seasonings include:
- salt
- pepper
- smoked paprika
- garlic powder
- basil or rosemary
I didn’t put measurements here because I don’t even measure these! I’d rather not dirty up measuring spoons if I don’t have to. Just put the amount that you think you can handle of each spice.
Season BOTH sides of the meat with all seasonings. Before you flip over to season the other side, massage the seasonings into the steak and all along the edges as well. Don’t leave a spot uncovered!
Right before you stick your steak in the oven, put a big chunk of grass-fed butter on the top of your steak. (I use 2 tablespoons per filet.)
What temperature do I cook my steak at?
If you’re cooking your steak in the oven, preheat oven to 425°. I prefer a medium-well steak so 20 minutes usually cooks it perfectly. If you prefer a rare steak, just reduce the time and use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.
Finishing Touches
When time is up, take the steak out of the oven, and let it sit for 5 minutes. This allows the juices to infiltrate the entire piece of meat. Then when you cut the steak, cut along the grain of the steak so that you get a clean cut with the perfect amount of flavor. We like to pour the melted butter mixed with the seasonings on top of the steak when we serve it. It’s so yum!
Quick Sides
- I roast veggies along with the steak at the same temperature and time. I usually choose broccoli, cauliflower or carrots.
- I bake potatoes in the instant pot for about 20 minutes. I pour a cup of water in the pot, and then lay clean potatoes I poked with a fork onto the rack that comes with the instant pot. Quick release after done and boom! You’ve got baked potatoes.
Enjoy your tasty steak dinner! 🙂
